Commitment to Dignity Whether a member chooses to serve as a chapter officer, or represent AOII as a member of other campus or community organizations, there are numerous opportunities to develop leadership skills as a member of AOII. Commitment to Scholarship AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals. Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs, academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success attainable. Commitment to College Loyalty From collegiate years on through alumnae involvement, the reason AOIIs continue service is the joy of spending time together and sharing the insights learned from the relationships we build and sustain. Let me be the first to welcome you to the Tau Mu chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi. My name is Kyla Hall and I have the honor of serving as the fourth president of AOII at Texas A&M University as well as representing our chapter to the Panehellenic community. My journey to Alpha Omicron Pi was different. My dorm suite mate was in the chapter while I was not involved in anything. Through her, I saw something that I desperately needed to be a part of. I saw her ambitions in her studies, her passion for people and meeting the needs of others, and commitment to her chapter. Upon joining AOII, I realized my suite mate was not the only one with those qualities; rather the entire chapter embodied that and more. The women of AOII are ambitious, dedicated, and loyal - always striving for the betterment of their chapter and their community. They are kind and compassionate yet fearless on every front. I cannot express how lucky I am to be able to lead women that are so inspiring to me daily. These are the women that will change the world. The opportunity to go to college is so precious, yet at the same time, is a very difficult transition for a lot of students. AOII is here to build relationships that last a lifetime, empower our women, and encourage them to chase their passions and dreams. While this chapter is still in its growth period at Texas A&M University, the women of Alpha Omicron Pi have accomplished so much in such little time. We have hosted events for our philanthropies; Strike Out Arthritis and Sisters for Soldiers' events, benefitting the Arthritis Foundation and Soldiers Angels respectively. We have been able to serve our community through the Big Event, Boys and Girls Club, Brazos Valley Children’s Museum, and have had the opportunity to support other philanthropies on campus by participating in events such as Songfest and Stompfest. My chapter’s heart for service truly impacts our community as well as our world, and I am very excited to see the impacts they make with their passion for serving. Being an Aggie is an experience in itself, but being a sorority woman in the Greek Community at Texas A&M University gives you a deeper understanding into the core values we hold so dear. My sisters truly exemplify what it means to be an Aggie - and I could not be more proud to lead a group dedicated to holding the integrity of their values. May you love one another as happily always as we four have done in a life-long fellowship without a break! And may your descendants in Alpha Omicron Pi bring to you the glory that you yourselves are to us today! Stella, Jess, Helen, and Bess became determined that their friendship should last a lifetime. On December 23, 1896, the four climbed the stairs in a small gallery of the old Columbia College Library which led to an old and seldom used room. On January 2, 1897, Alpha Omicron Pi was formally organized at the home of Helen St. Clair.
